A petrol pump employee was critically injured after three bike-borne miscreants opened fire and looted Rs 6 Lakh cash from him near Baladiabandha area under Sadar police limits in Dhenkanal on Tuesday.

According to reports, the cashier of the filling station, Manabendra Das was transferring cash into a van in the afternoon when the miscreants approached on a bike and shot him twice before decamping with the cash.

“We were shifting cash into a vehicle to deposit in a bank. Our main cashier was about to load the money inside the vehicle when the attackers fired two rounds and fled with the cash,” said Trilochan Nayak, a staffer at the petrol pump.

Das who suffered serious bullet wounds in the attack was rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. He is stated to be critical.

“The miscreants targeted the filling station as regularly the collected money is transferred to a bank. Moreover, they took advantage of the location of the pump which is away from the town. Initially they tussled with the staffers and later fired two rounds at the victim’s leg before decamping with the money. The investigation has already started. The Sadar police station IIC with his team has taken over the case and we will find the culprits soon,” said SP, Dhenkanal, K Shiva Subhramani.
