A joint team of the Commissionerate police and Delhi Police arrested a woman who allegedly looted gold and diamond ornaments from her employer’s house in the national capital, on Wednesday.

The woman identified as Sujata Mohapatra, a resident of Salia Sahi in Bhubaneswar, worked as a maid at a businessman’s house in Dwarka area under the Mehrauli Police Station limits in Delhi.

Taking advantage of the absence of the family members in the house few days back, Sujata allegedly decamped with gold and diamonds jewellery worth around one crore.

Based on a written complaint by the employer, the Mehrauli Police started an investigation and found that Sujata had fled to Bhubaneswar after committing the crime.

A three-member team of the Mehrauli Police landed in Bhubaneswar yesterday and with the help of the Commissionerate Police rounded up Sujata from Salia Sahi area on Wednesday.

“We started an investigation after Delhi Police contacted us in connection with the theft case. They provided us the phone number and other details of the accused. As soon as a team from Delhi Police reached Bhubaneswar yesterday, we swung into action and the accused was arrested subsequently. We also handed over the stolen booty including gold and diamond ornaments to the Delhi Police which were recovered from the possession of the accused,” informed the IIC of Capital Police Station, Girija Chakraborty.

Later, Sujata was produced at the Bhubaneswar CJM Court which allowed the Delhi Police to take her on transit remand. The verification of the involvement of other persons in the case is underway, added the IIC.
