Sambalpur Police on Tuesday claimed to have busted an inter-state drugs racket by arresting seven persons including the mastermind of the gang Sushant Kumar Lenka, who happens to be a Divyang.

Police have also seized around four quintals of Ganja (dry cannabis) from the gang's possession. Sambalpur SP, B. Gangadhar said Lenka had hired two assistants- a lady from Maharashtra and another from Uttar Pradesh.

Both the associates used to conduct the entire operation from loading and unloading of Ganja to storage and distribution. From Sambalpur, the gang used to traffic the contraband to other States like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, said the SP.

“In the last 7 to 8 years, the mastermind of the gang has amassed a huge property from the illegal drugs trade. He has a couple of triple-storied buildings in Sambalpur and recently purchased a plot in the name of his wife,” said Gangadhar.

The Sambalpur SP further informed that as the prime accused did not supply the contraband in local markets within the State, he was never arrested before.

The gang was reportedly busted after Madhya Pradesh police tipped about the criminals some two to three months back. “We will carry out a detailed financial investigation and the property of the mastermind will be attached,” the Sambalpur SP added.
