Teacher goes missing while attempting to rescue drowning nephew in Jagatsighpur
In a tragic turn of events, a retired teacher went missing while attempting to rescue his nephew who drowned in the Mahanadi river near the Tirtol bridge in Jagatsinghpur district. The heart-wrenching incident occurred while the family was performing a 'Dashaha' ritual of the victim’s mother on Sunday.
The missing person has been identified as Sampad Jena while the deceased has been identified as Kanha Jena (Sampad’s nephew).
As per reports, the rituals were underway along the riverbank when Kanha Jena from Nagapura village under Kolar Panchayat accidentally slipped and was pulled into the deep water.
Present at the scene, retired teacher Sampad Jena bravely jumped into the river to save the boy. Unfortunately, while attempting to rescue, Sampad himself went missing.

Rescue operations have been launched by the Fire Service personnel and are ongoing at the site. So far, the body of the boy has been recovered, while Sampad remains unaccounted for.
Authorities continue to search diligently for the missing teacher, and the community is deeply mourning the loss of the young boy, as well as the uncertainty surrounding Sampad's fate.
