Akhandalamani Temple pond in Bhadrak
A young man lost his life on Saturday after a group of four entered the Shivaganga pond within the premises of the Akhandalamani temple in Bhadrak to perform a customary ritual bath before offering prayers.
According to sources, all four individuals began struggling in the water shortly after entering the pond. Alert locals quickly intervened and managed to rescue them from drowning.
However, one of the victims, identified as Debabrata Mishra, succumbed while undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
As per eyewitnesses, the youths entered the temple pond to perform a ritual bath before offering their prayers. However, while bathing, all four began to struggle in the water and started drowning. The situation turned chaotic as other devotees witnessed the group desperately crying for help.
On hearing the cries and spotting the commotion, nearby locals immediately sprang into action. They launched a rescue effort, diving into the water and managing to pull out all four individuals after considerable effort. The rescued youths were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
Mishra, who was in a critical condition when rescued, died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
