Teacher couple attack DEO over non–payment of salary

Tension prevailed in Berhampur after a teacher couple allegedly attacked the District Education Officer (DEO) inside office premises on Tuesday.

The DEO Binita Senapati has reportedly sustained multiple injuries in the assault. As per initial reports, a teacher and her husband allegedly thrashed the DEO while she was going to have her lunch.

Sources said that the concerned teacher Shantilata Sahu (in-charge headmistress) alleged that her salary has been arbitrarily stopped for the last four years.

“Neither the authorities are suspending me nor giving any notice. They have also stopped my salary for the last four years and we have been staging dharna for the past couple of months,” said Shantilata.

From the CCTV footage, it can be seen that it was Shantilata who started a discussion with the DEO inside the office premises. Later, Shantilata’s husband thrashed the DEO leaving her injured.

Meanwhile, Town Police have detained Shantilata and her husband who also happens to be a teacher.

Senior officers posted at the District Education Officer's office said that the concerned lady teacher was not joining her duties despite several notices.
