Diamonds worth over Rs 50 lakh seized from Odisha smugglers by Chhattisgarh cops

The Chhattisgarh Police arrested two persons on charge of smuggling diamonds worth over Rs 50 lakh. The accused have been identified as Khokan Dhali and his son Biplab.

The father and son duo hails from Nabarangpur district in Odisha. Both Khokan and his son Biplab were arrested yesterday by Sobha police in Chhattisgarh when they were travelling with the diamonds on a two-wheeler.

A trap was laid after the Chhattisgarh police got information regarding the movement of the two persons with diamonds. During search, police officials recovered 745 pieces of rough diamods.

Gariabandh SP JR Thakur said, “A case under sections 379, 34 of the IPC and 4(21) of the Mining Act has been registered against the accused as they could not produce relevant documents regarding the possession of the diamonds.”
