Commissionerate Police Takes Matric Fail Fake Casanova Doctor On Remand
A Bhubaneswar court on Saturday granted five days custodial remand of serial fraudster Ramesh Swain who has accused of duping several women after marrying them, to the Commissionerate police in connection with a cheating case.
Earlier Swain was granted judicial custody following his arrest in another cheating case filed against him by one of his 17 wives known so far.
Police sources said that the move will facilitate Sawin’s detailed interrogation in order to understand his modus operandi and involvement in more crimes that are yet to be known.
The Commissionerate Police has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising senior cyber investigators and anti-fraud cell officials for conducting a detailed probe into Swain’s fraud syndicate. It is suspected that several other persons, including Swain’s original wife, assisted him in looting unsuspecting women after marrying them.
Sources said the police are planning to run through 30 years of Swain’s life so as to understand his ascent to crime, cheating in particular, and build up a strong case against him. Though two cases have already been registered against Swain, the police have so far received information about his involvement in 11 cheating cases.
“The court has granted five-day custodial remand of Swain. We have received 11 cheating complaints against Swain so far. He swindled Rs 11 lakh from a woman whom he had married. We have asked the victim’s family to visit Bhubaneswar for lodging a case in this connection,” said Bhubaneswar DCP, Umashankar Dash.
On allegations about Swain’s involvement in organ trade racket, the Bhubaneswar DCP said things will be clear only after the accused was interrogated.
Earlier, Swain was arrested by the Commissionerate Police on charges of duping a Delhi-based teacher. During probe, it was found that he had married 14 women across the country and duped them of lakhs of rupees by posing as a senior official of the health department. He also cheated other people and organisations by posing as a doctor.
However, Swain’s relatives had informed police that he had not passed matriculation exam. It is alleged that Swain had duped a youth of Rs 4 lakh by promising a staff nurse job under the Central government to his sister.
The Commissionerate Police had earlier revealed that Swain had first married a woman way back in 1982. He married another woman in 2002 and has a total of five children from his first two wives.
Between 2002 and 2019, Swain started to target single middle age women after obtaining their profile on Matrimonial websites. So far, it has been ascertained that Swain had cheated 17 women by marrying them using fake identities.
Swain was arrested by the Hyderabad Special Task Force for allegedly duping several unemployed youths and MBBS aspirants to the tune of Rs 2 crore in 2011.
