Three more women came out in the open on Wednesday and claimed that they had also married Bidhu Prakash Swain the charlatan serial groom who was arrested by the Commissionerate Police on Monday for marrying a total of 14 women from different parts of the country with a motive to acquire their property.

With the new claims, the total number of women found to have married the 54-year-old imposter has gone up to 17 so far.

Police said three women hailed from Assam, Chhattisgarh and Odisha, respectively. While the woman from Chhattisgarh is a Chartered Accountant by profession, the woman in Guwahati, Assam is a practicing doctor.

Sources said the woman from Odisha is also highly educated and having a high profile job.

More details came out in the case after the police revealed that Swain not only duped women on the pretext of marriage, he also ran a job racket and duped several MBBS aspirants to the tune of Rs 18 lakh by promising admission.

Police sources said a special investigative team has been formed to probe the other possible crimes committed by Swain who claimed to be a doctor. The team includes the IIC of Mahila Police station and two sub-inspectors.

Swain’s phone will be sent to a forensic lab and his financial transactions will also be probed, informed the police.

Swain was arrested on Monday by the Commissionerate Police for defrauding, fleecing money and acquiring property from several women across many cities in the county after marrying them.

During probe it was found that Swain had duped 14 women whom he had met on various matrimonial sites and social media. Most of the victims, who hail from other parts of the country, are highly educated and hold key posts in various government and private sector organisations.
