Days after the suspicious deaths of three women, who were found hanging from a tree in Umerkote area in Nabarangpur district, the Umerkote police has cracked the case and unearthed the reason behind the death of the trio.

After preliminary investigation, police have found that the three women ended their lives after their family members did not allow them to visit Meena Bazaar and Kalasi Yatra on the fateful day. 

The post-mortem report also revealed that the trio, identified as Hemalata Gouda, Koushalya Majhi and Phulamati Majhi from Tohara village, died of strangulation, police informed, adding that the bodies don't have any external or internal injuries.

On April 9, the trio was last spotted going towards the nearby forest. 

Later, their family members made a frantic search after they did not return in the night and found them hanging from a tree.
