Panaji: Goa government wants more say in the organisation of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and will place their demand while signing a MoU with the Centre in connection with this year's edition of the event.

The state will like to have more share in the organisation of IFFI 2013, including the decision on inviting the chief guest for the ten-day-long event, held annually in October-November, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told PTI.

"The majority of powers should come to us," he said. IFFI has been held in Goa since 2004.

The Directorate of Film Festival (DFF), a wing of Union ministry of information and broadcasting, which is a co-organiser with the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), has been taking major decisions regarding IFFI. The ESG was only handling logistics.

Parrikar said the state government has decided to hand over responsibility of heading the ESG to BJP legislator Vishnu Surya Wagh, a well known theatre personality.

The ESG would be holding a special meeting on July 23 to decide on the MoU and appointment of Wagh as the chairman of ESG, which has been conventionally headed by the chief minister.
