Mumbai: The Indian rupee fell by two paise to Rs 44.47 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today, largely pressured by a lower opening in the stock market.

Forex dealers said the lower opening in the stock market this morning mainly put pressure on the rupee vis-a-vis the dollar, but a firm euro against the American currency overseas ahead of an emergency euro zone meeting due later in the day capped the losses.

The rupee gained 4 paise to close above a one-week high at Rs 44.45/44.46 per US dollar in yesterday’s trade due to dollar weakness overseas.
