Koraput/Jagatsinghpur: Two daring firing incidents in broad day light have been reported from two different places in Odisha today. Miscreants looted gold jewellery after opening fire at a couple in Koraput district while a contractor was shot at by unidentified assailants in Jagatsinghpur.
According to police, P Ashok and his wife Sunita of Boriguma were going to Jeypore at around 10 am while three bike-borne miscreants followed them from Haradaput square near Boriguma and intercepted them on NH-26 near Randapali.
They opened fire at the couple before snatching the jewellery from Sunita. Ashok, who sustained injuries in his stomach, was rushed to Jeypore health centre and later shifted to Koraput district headquarters hospital when his condition deteriorated.
In the other incident, Nagendra Jena, a contractor of Saalgaon village in Jagatsinghpur district, was going to the local market at Alipingal in the morning while two miscreants shot at him near Belabana village. Jena, who suffered bullet injuries in the thigh, was admitted to the district headquarters hospital there.
However, the motive behind the assault is not yet known. Police are investigating to ascertain the reason behind the attack.
