Chilika: Odisha’s Wildlife department has spotted migratory birds at Nalabana and Mangalajodi islands in the Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon in the State.
Source said about 5-7 species of migratory birds were seen in Chilika so far this year.
Chilika Wildlife Division DFO Bikash Ranjan Das said, “In comparison to last year, the number of migratory birds is less. Besides, the winged guests have arrived here a bit late. We hope in future days the number of migratory birds will increase.”
The 1,000-sq km lake, spread over Puri, Khurda and Ganjam districts along the eastern coast, is home to some of the largest congregations of migratory birds in the country.
Every year, about a million migratory birds throng the lake in October and return in March with the onset of summer season.
