Bhubaneswar: BJP today accused the Naveen Patnaik regime in Odisha of having failed on all fronts and said incidents like killing of civilians in firing, malnutrition deaths and “body on shoulder” episode occurred due to its inefficiency.
The party observed ‘Lajja Diwas’ (day of shame) as a mark of protest against the BJD government’s alleged apathy towards problems faced by people and held it responsible for the recent suicide of a dismissed homeguard.
During the protest senior BJP leaders claimed that the state has been witnessing misrule, lawlessness and highhandedness during the BJD regime which was exposed by the killing of five civilians, mostly tribals, during anti-naxal operation by police at Gumudumaha in Kandhamal district.
The Gumudumaha incident had made it amply clear that the government had lost grip over police administration, state BJP unit President Basant Panda said.
Citing the death of at least 19 infants due to severe malnutrition within a short span at Nagada in Jajpur district, the party leader said it showed that the health care sector had completely collapsed in Odisha, party leaders said.
The manner in which tribal Dana Majhi, unable to get a hearse, was made to walk over 10 kms carrying his wife’s body on his shoulder from a hospital in Kalahandi district recently had brought disrepute to the state, they said.
Taking a dig at the state government over the suicide of dismissed homeguard Sandip Hati outside chief minister’s residence, the BJP leaders said he was forced to take the extreme step as his repeated pleas for sympathy went unheeded for the last three years.
They demanded an independent probe into Hati’s dismissal in 2013 and his self immolation protesting the action.
All these unfortunate incidents have brought shame to the state due to the state government’s inefficiency and apathetic attitude, BJP state unit general secretary Prthiviraj Harichandan said.
“These incidents have proved wrong state government’s tall claims about development. BJD government’s inefficiency has been thoroughly exposed,” he said.
Stating that the protest programme is aimed to make people aware about the BJD government’s failure on all fronts, he said BJP would take the issue to every nook and corner of the state.
