With no let up in heatwave conditions, people across Odisha are doing their best to protect themselves from the scorching heat and at the same time praying for thunderstorm activities. However, no respite seems to be the on the cards as there is high probability that such heatwave conditions will prevail in different parts of Odisha for two more weeks.

Bhubaneswar IMD scientist Umashankar Dash informed that as per the extended weather outlook, the heatwave conditions will continue in Odisha from May 3 to May 9, 2024.

The heatwave conditions are also likely to prevail in coastal districts while several parts in western and interior pockets might experience day temperature between 42 to 44 degrees C during the same period.

The probability of heatwave in the first week in Odisha is 68 to 100 percent while it is 34 to 67 percent in the second week.

As per the extended range forecast, IMD informed that the last week’s heatwave conditions (2nd spell of Heat wave during this season) further intensified over the eastern parts of India during the week and continued to prevail during all dates in the week.

Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions observed over Odisha and West Bengal during the period. IMD informed that the heatwave spell over Odisha started from April 15, and over Gangetic West Bengal from April 17.
