Tokyo: Japanese police found the decomposing body of a woman in a suitcase abandoned for a month in a luggage room of the Tokyo Station, reported The Japan Times today.

A luggage room worker found the yellow-coloured suitcase and after discovering its contents, informed the police on Sunday.

The body is of an unidentified woman aged between 70 and 90 years, Kyodo news agency said quoting the police.

The suitcase was in the station office for a month, the period established for claims, after being found in an unlocked locker on the morning of April 26, the employee told the officers.

On Sunday, after the holding period expired, the employee opened the suitcase and found the body of a woman about 140 cm in height.

The body was stuffed into the suitcase, but bore no significant external injuries, according to the authorities.

The employee of the company operating the lockers added that the suitcase was not in the locker on the morning of April 25, a day before being found.

Police cordoned off the area in search of forensic evidence and are reviewing security cameras for any evidence as to who might have left the body there.
