World Earth Day 2024: Under Planet Vs Plastic Initiative, Researchers Develop New Method To Tackle Polythene Waste

Plastics pose a big risk not only to the health, but to the environment and atmosphere as well. The theme of this year’s Earth Day is ‘Planet Vs Plastics’ which calls for significant reduction in global plastic production. Recently, an international team of experts developed a way of using polyethylene waste (PE) as a feedstock and converted it into valuable chemicals, via light-driven photocatalysis. The team said the fundamental research provides a green and sustainable solution to simultaneously reduce plastic pollution and produce valuable chemicals from waste for a circular economy.
