Washington: Describing India as a rising global power, a bi-partisan resolution introduced in the US House of Representatives has expressed support for the country`s bid for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

The resolution, introduced by Democratic Congressman Alcee Hastings on Thursday and supported by half-a-dozen other lawmakers, has now been referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Appreciating India for being a strong democratic ally, key economic partner and rising global power, the resolution favours its inclusion as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

It encourages President Barack Obama to work with friends and allies of the US in the United Nations to effect India`s inclusion on the Security Council.
