Islamabad: Twenty militants and a soldier were killed in fighting in Pakistan`s tribal belt as security forces beat back an attack by dozens of rebels coming from Afghanistan, security officials said on Sunday.

The militants attacked a post manned by members of an anti-Taliban militia in the Bajaur tribal region.

Militants based in Afghanistan have sneaked into Pakistani territory to carry out attacks for the past three days, officials said.

Four soldiers and four members of the militia were injured in today`s clashes in Salarzai area of Bajaur Agency.

Officials said four soldiers, six members of the anti-Taliban militia and nearly 40 militants were killed during attacks on Friday and Saturday.

Pakistan has accused Afghan and US forces of not doing enough to stop cross-border attacks by Taliban militants.
