IMD predicts two days of moderate rainfall in Odisha due to a western disturbance. Minimal nighttime temperature changes expected, with a slight decrease of 2-4 degrees later. Possible mild cold spell.
According to the latest IMD (India Meteorological Department) update, the cyclonic storm, after crossing the Bangladesh coast, weakened into a deep depression, and later into a depression, and lay 50 km east-southeast of Tripura's capital Agartala.
The cyclonic storm Midhili is about 190 km east of Paradip (Odisha), 200 km south-southeast of Digha (West Bengal), and 220 km southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh).
As per IMD, the deep depression is likely to continue to move north-north-eastwards and intensify further into a cyclonic storm and cross Bangladesh coast between Mongla and Khepupara around the morning of November 18.
The system is about 380km east-southeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 380 km south of Paradip (Odisha), 530 km south-southwest of Digha (West Bengal), and 670 km southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh), informed India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As per the IMD, the depression would move northwestwards and may intensify into a deep depression over Westcentral Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast on November 16. Subsequently, it would recurve northnortheastwards and reach Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast on November 17.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it is likely to move West north-westwards and intensify into a depression over the West-central Bay of Bengal tomorrow.
Thereafter, it would move north-westwards and may intensify into a Deep Depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast on November 16, said IMD
As per the IMD, the upper air cyclonic circulation still persists over South Andaman Sea extending up to the middle tropospheric levels tilting southwestwards with height. Under its influence, a low pressure area has formed over Southeast Bay of Bengal today.
The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over Central and adjoining South Bay of Bengal around November 16.
Informing the same, Bhubaneswar MeT Centre Chief, HR Biswas said, “Dry weather is likely to prevail over all the districts of Odisha for the next five days, till November 15. After that, there are chances of rain in coastal Odisha and adjoining interior areas around November 16.”
Its report also warned that El Nino is only just beginning to boost temperatures, and, based on historical patterns, most of the effect would be felt next year.
Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre Chief, HR Biswas said, “The next 24 hours will be mostly dry in Odisha except for one or two places in Malkangiri and Koraput which may experience light rainfall. After that, dry weather is most likely to prevail in all the districts till November 14.”
India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday informed that a cyclonic circulation also lies over Comorin area in lower tropospheric levels.
The system is likely to move west-northwestwards towards Southeast and adjoining East-central Arabian Sea. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over Eastcentral Arabian Sea around November 8, IMD said.
