Vigilance Raid On Odisha’s Former R&B Chief Engineer Detects Ill-Gotten Wealth To The Tune Of Crores

From foreign tours to possessing a massive collection of gold, diamond and antique items! The Vigilance officials on Monday were taken aback after they stumbled upon a huge stock of gold, diamond and silver ornaments during a raid on the property linked to Tara Prasad Mishra, former Chief Engineer with the Roads & Building (Civil), Odisha.Simultaneous raids were launched by vigilance officials to unearth disproportionate assets of former Chief Engineer, Roads & Building (Civil) in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Jharsuguda. The raids were conducted on Mishra’s multiple property on the charges of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Raids are currently underway at 9 places linked to Mishra in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Jharsuguda.Senior Vigilance officials informed that 10 high value flats in Bhubaneswar and Jharsuguda and seven plots, bank deposits of over Rs 2.7 crore and 1.5 kg of gold was detected during the searches so far. Apart from this, cash worth over Rs 6 lakh, 2 luxury cars including a Mercedes, multiple watches including Rolex (Approx Rs 13 lakh) has been detected. In a release, Vigilance officials said Mishra has also spent around Rs 80 lakh on the medical education of his daughter. Other deposits and investments in shares & Mutual funds are being ascertained.As per initial reports, Mishra had come under scanner following several allegations during his tenure. However, he had retired from government service last year.
