A bench comprising Justices SK Kaul and Abhay S Oka passed the order while hearing a plea relating to protests by lawyers in the State demanding a permanent High Court bench in Sambalpur district.

Section 144 of CrPC clamped at Kacheri Chhak to maintain the law and order. 

Palpable tension prevailed at the Panchayat Samiti meeting in Sambalpur’s Jujumara block when the local BDO, CDPO, and officials of several other departments were forcefully served moldy chhatua (sattu) and badam laddoo by a Samiti member.

Samiti member Jayanta Pradhan said he wanted the officials to see what these beneficiaries are forced to eat, which is why he intentionally served them chhatua and laddoo covered in mold.

The lawyers have been striking over the demand for a permanent bench of Orissa High Court in western Odisha at Sambalpur. 

The association picketed at Kacheri Chhak and refrained from doing any court work.

A giant 10-ft long python was rescued from Chaurpur area of Sambalpur. After passersby spotted the reptile in a bush, they immediately informed forest dept officials. The python was safely rescued and released in reserve forest.

A gharial crocodile was found dead on the banks of Mahanadi river near Marwari Pada Ghat in Sambalpur yesterday (Sept 12). The carcass was recovered from the water body by local people. A GPS tracking device was found attached to the gharial’s tail. Forest officer who reached the spot informed that it might have come up from Satkosia.
