The Odisha government today said it has decided to make Aadhaar card mandatory for procurement of paddy in the state

Alleging gross irregularities in paddy procurement at different Mandis in the State, the Odisha BJP gheraoed the office of the State Civil Supplies Corporation here at Unit-8 on Friday.

The 11-hour bandh is being observed from 7 am to 6 pm in the town. However, emergency services have been exempted from the bandh.

Farmers are issued token generated from the State capital and is given a time period to sell their paddy at the nearby paddy procurement centre or mandis.

The incident took place when hundreds of farmers had blocked the State Highway-26 by placing paddy-laden tractors on the road alleging irregularities and confusion in token distribution at Deogaon PACS. 

The ruling BJD government welcomed Centre's decision, Congress said the hike in MSP is of no use for the farmers.
