Bhubaneswar: Odisha government will procure 53 lakh quintal of paddy this year informed Chief Secretary Aditya Padhi today.

The government has plans to procure 44 lakh quintal paddy during Kharif and 9 lakh quintal paddy during Rabi seasons respectively.

"10 lakhs farmers have already been registered under the government's e-registration system. We have planned to procure a total of 53 lakh quintal of paddy this year," Padhi added.

Padhi also said that if need arises, the procurement numbers may be increased.

Meanwhile, the relief commissioner informed that payments on account of paddy procured would be made directly into accounts of farmers through co-operative banks.

It is worth mentioning that payment worth crores of rupees to hundreds of farmers in several districts across the State was delayed during the last Kharif season.
