As many as 719 doctors succumbed to Covid-19 in the line of duty during the second wave of the pandemic. The data was shared by the Indian Medical Association in its latest report.

Odisha Police announced a major recruitment drive on Saturday (June 12). Applications have been sought for as many as 477 Sub-Inspector posts in Odisha Police. In an important decision, transgender candidates are also eligible to apply for the posts.

With the announced lockdown in Odisha coming to an end on June 17th, all eyes are now on State government’s decision on reopening. During a review meeting recently, CM Naveen Patnaik instructed officials to prepare the blueprint of unlocking in the state.

Increasing the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Paddy to Rs. 2930 per quintal will immensely benefit the farmers in Odisha. This demand was put forth by the Odisha Government on Friday after the centre took a decision to raise the MSP of paddy by Rs 72 per quintal to Rs 1940. Odisha Agriculture Minister, Arun Sahoo on Friday requested the Centre to increase the MSP of paddy for Rs 2930 per quintal. The Centre has increased the MSP of paddy from Rs. 1868 to Rs. 1940 per quintal and to Rs. 1960 for Grade-A paddy. The Odisha minister said that this meagre hike will not help the centre in achieving its target of doubling the income of farmers by 2022.

The decision regarding reopening will be taken only after reviewing the situation before June 17. This was informed by Odisha Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra on Friday (June 11). Mishra stated that even though the cases are reducing, the decision to unlock the state will be taken only after reviewing the situation after the Raja festival.

A high profile Maoist cadre was gunned down by a joint team of SOG (Special Operation Group) jawans and District Voluntary Force (DVF) during an exchange of fire with the ultras on Friday (June 11). Odisha recorded 5,235 new Covid-19 cases on Friday. With this, the positive tally in the State surged to 8,42,461, the State I&PR Department informed

The incident took place when hundreds of farmers had blocked the State Highway-26 by placing paddy-laden tractors on the road alleging irregularities and confusion in token distribution at Deogaon PACS. 

The ruling BJD government welcomed Centre's decision, Congress said the hike in MSP is of no use for the farmers.
