Increasing the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Paddy to Rs. 2930 per quintal will immensely benefit the farmers in Odisha. This demand was put forth by the Odisha Government on Friday after the centre took a decision to raise the MSP of paddy by Rs 72 per quintal to Rs 1940. Odisha Agriculture Minister, Arun Sahoo on Friday requested the Centre to increase the MSP of paddy for Rs 2930 per quintal. The Centre has increased the MSP of paddy from Rs. 1868 to Rs. 1940 per quintal and to Rs. 1960 for Grade-A paddy. The Odisha minister said that this meagre hike will not help the centre in achieving its target of doubling the income of farmers by 2022.
The decision regarding reopening will be taken only after reviewing the situation before June 17. This was informed by Odisha Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra on Friday (June 11). Mishra stated that even though the cases are reducing, the decision to unlock the state will be taken only after reviewing the situation after the Raja festival.
