India's legendary boxer MC Mary Kom might be on the road to recovery but the ace athlete has made it clear that she is in no mood to "retire" and will surely make a comeback.
The last season of 'KBC' had seen a number of celebrities appearing on the show like Deepika Padukone, Farah Khan, Boman Irani, Pankaj Tripathi, Genelia Dsouza, and Ritesh Deshmukh amongst others.
The six-time world champion twisted her left knee in the first few minutes in the opening round of the 48kg semifinals against Haryana's Nitu.
In a communication to the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), Mary Kom said, "I would like to withdraw to give opportunity to the younger generation to make a name for themselves on the international stage and get exposure and experience of major tournaments. I would like to focus on the preparation for the Commonwealth Games only."
The 38-year-old, who is a multiple-time Asian champion and a bronze-winner from the 2012 London olympics, lost 2-3 to the Colombian, giving it her all in what would now be her final Olympic bout.
A total of 19 Indian athletes, including flag-bearers iconic boxer M C Mary Kom and men's hockey team captain Manpreet Singh, besides six officials, participated in the ceremony. The country has a 228-strong delegation in Tokyo, including over 120 athletes.
