The Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Umashankar Das on Tuesday (Nov 2) informed that the police would conduct raids on shops and take action against those selling firecrackers without a Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) certificate.
The Orissa High Court on Monday (Nov 1) allowed sale and use of green crackers during this year’s Diwali celebrations on November 4. As per the court order, only crackers certified by Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) can be used.
While giving its nod to the use of crackers, the Court however, made it categorical that only Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) approved green crackers will be allowed in the State.
Orissa HC has asked the SRC to arrive at a decision while keeping in mind the directives of the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and also the Covid-19 guidelines.
