Chennai: Tamil Nadu Government on Monday announced a cash reward of Rs three crore to the Indian Cricket team for winning the ICC World Cup.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, in a statement, also said a special cash award of Rs one crore would be given to Tamil Nadu player R Ashwin, a member of the victorious Indian squad.

In view of the model code of conduct in force for the April 13 Assembly elections, the government would seek the Election Commission`s permission in this regard, he added.

M S Dhoni-led Indian cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final of the world cup in Mumbai on April 2 to lift the trophy after a gap of 28 years.
