Nepali youth collapses, dies of 'heart attack' during OSAP recruitment practice in Odisha

A Nepali youth, Gobinda Kumal, tragically died of a suspected heart attack during a recruitment practice session for OSAP in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district. He collapsed during a physical drill before the official selection process began. The incident has sparked concerns over health screenings and emergency response in recruitment drills. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement.

A tragic incident occurred during a recruitment practice drill for the OSAP 2nd Battalion at the reserve ground in Jharsuguda district, where an aspiring candidate collapsed and later died during physical training on Sunday.

The deceased youth was identified as Gobinda Kumal, a resident of Nepal. Gobinda had come to Jharsuguda town to participate in the physical fitness test as part of the police recruitment process.

The incident took place during a practice session at the OSAP Reserve Ground.

According to sources, Gobinda suddenly collapsed on the ground while undergoing the drill. He was immediately rushed to a nearby health facility for treatment in an unconscious state. However, doctors there declared him ‘dead’ upon arrival.

“The Nepali youth who had come to Jharsuguda for recruitment has died. He passed away before participating in the recruitment process for the post of constable in OSAP. He died of a suspected heart attack today while practising at the Reserve Police Ground, just before he was scheduled to attend the recruitment rally on September 17,” an eyewitness stated.

The incident has cast a shadow over the recruitment process, raising concerns over fitness screening, medical preparedness, and emergency response during such exercises.

Authorities are yet to release a formal statement on the matter.

A detailed probe is expected to determine whether there were lapses in health checkups or training protocols prior to the drill.

Worth mentioning, earlier in another incident, a job aspirant lost his life on August 8 during a physical test conducted for Home Guard recruitment in Khordha district.

The deceased was identified as Amadul Haque, a 40-year-old resident of Keranga locality in the district. He had come to the Tartutua Reserve Ground to take part in the physical fitness test as part of the recruitment process.
