Bhubaneswar: A ward member was stabbed to death by Maoists on suspicion of being a police informer while CRPF jawans escaped unhurt when the rebels exploded landmine in separate incidents in Koraput and Keonjhar district today, police said.

Puala Sadaram, a ward member from Sanakamara in Bandhugaon block in naxal-infested Koraput district, was taken away from his village by a group of armed Maoists late on Wednesday night, they said.

The body of Sadaram with his throat slit with sharp weapon was found in a pool of blood in a deserted forest area near Kumaganda village this morning, they said adding that the ultras apparently suspected him to be an informer of police. Combing operation has been launched in the area and security personnel in strength were deployed for conducting intensive patrolling, sources said.

In another incident in mineral rich Keonjhar district, three CRPF personnel escaped unhurt in a landmine explosion triggered by Maoists in Kiribur area though the vehicle carrying them suffered partial damage in the blast. The blast took place in Orissa-Jharkhand border area when the vehicle with about three jawan including the driver was proceeding from Kiribur to Megadpur mines to pick up jawans, Keonjhar Superintendent of Police Asish Singh said.

No one in the vehicle was injured in the blast which caused some damage to windscreen and glass panes, police said adding security personnel in strength had been sent to the area.
