Bhubaneswar: Highlighting irregularities in allotment of houses of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) houses in Begunia block of Khurda district, BJP Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi has written a letter to Odisha Panchayati Raj Minister, seeking his intervention for impartial investigation into the case.

"Eligible applicants (of the area) have been intentionally deleted from the approved list. Moreover, ineligible households, who have been allotted pucca houses earlier have received second allotment", alleged Sarangi in her letter.

Reportedly, On July 9, the Orissa High Court acting on a petition of some local residents of the area, had instructed the Collector of Khordha and the B.D.O of Begunia to take decision on deletion of ineligible beneficiaries and addition of deserving candidates in the list in accordance of law within a period of six weeks.

"Despite instruction from the High Court, the district officials are yet to cancel the irregular allotment," said Sarangi.

The parliamentarian has requested Panchayati Raj Minister Pratap Jena to take appropriate action as early as possible after conducting an impartial investigation into the matter as sanctioning of PMAY (G) to ineligible households and depriving the needy is matter of grave concern.

"The system may also be streamlined, so the target of universal inclusion of real beneficiaries is ensured and 'right' beneficiaries are selected," she pointed out in the letter.

Notably, the BJP has been raising the issue of PMAY irregularities in the state and had also staged a protest in Bhubaneswar on October 11 alleging that the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has hijacked Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), and undemocratically changed the name of the scheme to Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana.
