Four killed, ten injured in bus-truck collision in Baripada

Mayurbhanj: At least four persons including a woman were killed and 10 others sustained critical injuries in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck carrying iron rods near Agaria bridge under Baisinga Police limits on NH-18 in Baripada late Thursday night.

As per reports, the ill-fated ‘Kalpana’ bus carrying 20 passengers was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Baripada around 12 AM when it met with the accident.

Following the incident, police and fire services personnel rushed to the spot after getting information and rescued the passengers trapped inside the bus. Later, all the injured were admitted to a nearby hospital with the help of the locals.

The exact reason of the mishap is yet to be ascertained. Though police have seized the truck, the driver and helper of the vehicle are reportedly absconding.

“After getting information, we immediately rushed to the spot, rescued the injured and later admitted them hospital,” said Betanoti Fire Services officer Ratikanta Das.

In another mishap, eight passengers sustained injuries after the bus they were travelling in lost balance and skidded off road near Banarpal in Angul district in the wee hours today.
