Cuttack: At least five persons including a woman were injured in a post-poll violence at Pokhari village in Niali area of Cuttack on Monday morning.

Some members of a particular political party barged into the house of an activist of another party and attacked him and his family members with wooden planks over political rivalry.

Following the physical assault, the victims suffered injuries and were rushed to a hospital for treatment. Later, three of them were shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.

While the incident sparked an outrage in the area, Niali police rushed to the village to pacify the locals.

As acute tension prevailed in the village, cops have been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
Refuting claims of political rivalry, Radha Binod Panigrahi, SP (Rural), said, "It is a matter of civil dispute. There is no political rivalry behind the incident. The SDPO and IIC of the local police station along with his team are in the village. A probe into the matter has been initiated. The accused will be arrested after a proper investigation," he said.
