Truck hits ambulance; 1 woman patient killed, 4 injured

Balasore: In a tragic incident, a woman patient was killed and four persons were critically injured when a speeding truck hit an '108' ambulance in which they were travelling on NH-5 near Chingudi square under Simulia police limits here on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified Dhanantari Mahanta and the injured persons were identified as Karitaka Mohanty, son-in-law of Dhanantari Rajesh Kumar Mahanta and daughter Subhasmita Mahanta.

According to sources, the incident took place when the ambulance carrying Dhanantari and her relatives was on its way to SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack from Baripada. The patient died on the spot while the other four persons including the ambulance staff sustained injuries after being the hit by the truck from the backside.

Out of the four injured persons, two were shifted to SCB medical college and hospital after their condition started deteriorating, the sources added.
