In the run-up to the 2024 elections, police seized cash worth Rs 3.60 lakh from a car while checking vehicles in Bhubaneswar on Saturday night.   

Besides, police also seized Rs 1.95 lakh cash from a two-wheeler during the checking near Binika College Chhak in Subarnapur district.

As per reports, Chandrasekharpur Police seized the cash and started an investigation into the source of the money, its destination and its purpose of use. According to sources, the person in the car failed to furnish satisfactory replies about the source and destination of the money.

Speaking to the media, Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda, on Sunday, said that police seized Rs 3.6 lakh from a vehicle in connection with election-related cash transfer in the Chandrasekharpur area last night. Further investigation into the matter is underway.”

He added that as elections are coming closer, blocking and checking will be intensified further in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

In another case, Rs 1.95 lakh cash was also seized from a two-wheeler during checking near Binika College Chhak on Sunday. Two persons were detained, sources said.

Tehsildar Sitaram Bhoi said, "Several squads are checking vehicles to examine election-related cash transfers. A squad led by Binika's additional Tehsildar was checking vehicles at Binika Chhak today when Rs 1.95 lakh was recovered from the dicky of a bike. Two persons were detained.”

Earlier on April 6, Binika Police seized Rs 55.20 lakh cash during vehicle checking at Binika College Chhak.
