Kolkata trader’s bags with 17 kg silver, Rs 5 lakh ‘stolen’ from bus in Odisha’s Berhampur
A Kolkata-based trader was allegedly robbed of 17 kg fine silver and Rs 5 lakh in cash while travelling to his hometown in a private bus near Bhejiput chhak at Khallikote in Berhampur on Friday night. The victim has been identified as Mithun Mandal.
According to sources, Mandal was returning to Kolkata with the valuables and cash in a private bus named Khambeswari after carrying out his regular business activity in Berhampur.
Mandal along with fellow passengers got down from the bus to have snacks when the vehicle halted at a spot, located at some distance from the Bhejipur police outpost on National Highway 12.
Mohan had left his two bags containing cash and silver on his sleeper seat, sources added.
Taking advantage of the situation, four unidentified car-borne miscreants reportedly looted the bags and fled the spot, sources informed.
“I was travelling to Kolkata from Berhampur. I got off the bus at Bhejipur to have snacks. A few minutes later when I boarded the bus again I found my bags missing,” Mandal alleged.
Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation into the matter after Madal filed a complaint in this regard.
