Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police have issued notices to 12 students of the Forestry department of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) accused of ragging juniors, to appear.

According to police sources, the students have been asked to appear before the police within 14 days. Notices have been served by the police based on the complaints lodged by the parents of the accused police.

Meanwhile, formal notices to rusticate five students of Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) accused of ragging will be issued today by the University authorities. Taking stern action against the students, the disciplinary committee set up by the university had yesterday informed to rusticate 5 students for one year. Moreover, the disciplinary action was also recommended against 10 other students of the university’s Forestry department where the ragging was reported.

OUAT Vice Chancellor Dr Manoranjan Kar said, "Definitely punishment will be given to the accused students as per the decision. However, a committee is interrogating the students and recording their versions. After examining them, we will issue a notification."

Twin City Police Commissioner RP Sharma said, "I believe the college authorities must be having some mechanism to take disciplinary action against the accused students depending upon facts. As a complaint was lodged, police will do an investigation and take action as per law."

Notably, the ragging incident was brought to the notice of the Vice Chancellor by the teachers of the university after receiving complaints from the victim students.

In the mean time, the parents of the victim students filed a complaint with Khandagiri Police after which a case was registered against senior students of the university.
