Once he was severely criticised by fans and experts for his sluggish form in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the aggressive all-rounder has come a long way and hit a purple patch in the ongoing edition of the cash-rich league. Stylish batsman Riyan Parag has ticked all the boxes with his consistent performances for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2024.

Parag stood tall for his team once again with a fighting score of 48 runs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on a tricky pitch on Wednesday. Though Rajasthan lost their fourth match on trot, Parag’s effort was hailed by several experts and fans.

With his fighting knock, the 22-year-old batter has now garnered a total of 531 runs with an impressive average of 59 in 12 games. He is now on the fourth spot in the list of leading run-scorers in IPL 2024.

Despite the defeat, former New Zealand speedster and Rajasthan Royals assistant coach Shane Bond lauded Parag’s contribution for the franchise.

“Riyan has an amazing season in IPL 2024 so far. His promotion to number four has really suited him. He’s had a number of years batting in a position that was pretty tough down the order and people forget how young he is. It just takes some time when you’re young. Obviously saw, how well he played in domestic cricket and this season particularly in T20s,” said Bond.

“He’s rolled on this season. He is a quality player and there’s no doubt about him. I’m really excited for him and proud of him the way he has played so far. I think the team is super excited for him. He’s borne the brunt of some criticism over the last few years in terms of performances and so to put that to the side and come out the way he’s played this season at the number four spot, real credit to him for the work he’s put in,” the former New Zealand great added.
