Malkangiri: After a report on illegal ganja cultivation at the cutoff areas in the district was aired on OTV, Excise officials on Saturday conducted a raid at Kandel village under Orkel police limits and destroyed ganja plants grown over two acres of forest and government land.

According to sources, a 20 member team headed by Magistrate raided the village and destroyed the hemp cultivation.

The district Excise department has So far destroyed more than two lakh ganja trees grown over 60 acres of government by conducting raid at various places in the district, an official said.

The Excise department will conduct raid at other places of the district with the help of the district administration to curb the illegal ganja cultivation, he added.
