Bhubaneswar: Adding another feather to its cap after topping the Smart City challenge, Bhubaneswar on Monday was felicitated for being one of the cleanest cities in the country.

As per the list of cleanest cities announced by the Union Urban Development ministry as part of its Swachh Sarvekshan (Cleanliness Survey), Bhubaneswar has been conferred the ‘top mover’ award. The survey, which was carried across 73 cities, has ranked Bhubaneswar at 24th. In the previous survey, Bhubaneswar was ranked 331. Cuttack, the second city from Odisha in the survey, has been ranked 59th.

“We have been adjudged as the top city in the Eastern Zone, and overall we have been ranked 24th. This recognition will further strengthen our confidence and we have promised the Union minister Venkaiah Naidu that we will further improve our standing in the coming years,” said Bhubaneswar Mayor, Anant Narayan Jena.

The survey was conducted between January 1 and January 20 across selected cities of the country.

It is worth mentioning here that, Mysuru has claimed the top rank while Dhanbad has been adjudged as the dirtiest among the lot.
