Cuttack: Many would argue that we live in the realm of selfishness where a helping hand to the helpless is just a drop in an ocean. But an orphanage in Cuttack has set an example which would never make any orphan feel unwanted.

A grand wedding is something all parents aspire for their daughters and a lifetime's savings and toil goes into planning the same. For Annapurna, who is an orphan, such a huge obligation was fulfilled by her orphanage - Jashoda Sadan at Ranihat in Cuttack.

The wedding was a grand affair to ensure that Annapurna didn’t feel deprived of all the joys of a proper matrimony as she was married off to one Jagannath Panda from Chandpur village of Jagatsinghpur district. They even reportedly gifted furniture and consumer durables to the newly-wed couple as per the tradition.

Annapurna was three years old when she lost her parents in the Super Cyclone of 1999 and Jashoda Sadan became her home, where she found all the love and care she needed to grow up.

Indramani Mallik, Secretary of Jashoda Sadan said, “We are like parents to her. Like all other parents, we too wanted to get Annapurna married in a grand manner.”

Asked about her feelings, Annapurna said, “I am excited to start a new life and at the same time feel sad about leaving Jashoda Sadan which was my home.”

“I’ll support her throughout,” said Jagannath Panda, Annapurna's husband.
