Woman critically injured in explosion at illegal firecracker unit in Mayurbhanj
An explosion inside a house in Bhimada village under Barasahi police limits in Mayurbhanj district on Friday morning left a woman critically injured and caused extensive damage to the structure.
According to reports, the incident took place early in the morning while a woman and her husband were allegedly engaged in manufacturing firecrackers inside their house. The explosion was so severe that the roof of the outhouse belonging to villager Shatrughan Mandal was blown off, while its walls collapsed under the impact.
The injured woman, identified as Mandal’s wife, sustained critical injuries in the mishap. She was rushed to a hospital in Balasore before being shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment due to her critical condition.
The magnitude of the explosion left villagers stunned as the roof and parts of the house were completely destroyed. Debris was scattered across the premises, drawing attention from locals who rushed to the spot after hearing the deafening sound.
On receiving information, police reached the scene and launched an investigation. During preliminary inquiry, officials recovered materials suspected to have been used in the illegal manufacturing of firecrackers. Authorities are also probing the extent of the explosives stored and whether others were involved in the activity.
The quantity of materials present at the site is yet to be ascertained, but officials confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to establish responsibility and prevent recurrence of such incidents.
