Cuttack: The Commissionerate police investigating into the alleged kidney theft here today said that information furnished before the authorization committee about the income of victim’s husband was false.
The cops revealed the startling fact after verifying all the documents submitted before the committee by Bhabagrahi Naik, the husband of Padmini, the complaint. Padmini, a resident of Thoria sahi under Mangalabag police station in Cuttack, had complained that she was lured with huge money and her kidney was extracted in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
“We came to know that the authorisation committee was misled with false information about the income of Naik. It was shown in the document that Naik had an income of Rs 2.6 lakh from various sources including some business while in reality he is a rickshaw puller.
We are investigating whether all the documents related to the case are valid and proper procedure followed to avail the benefit,” Commissioner of Police RP Sharma said.
“The authorization committee would look into money transaction or commercial activity angle in the matter. We cannot rule out the possibility the existence of a racket behind it,” Sharma added.
Earlier claiming the kidney of the Cuttack woman was donated legally, the commissionerate of police had said that no irregularity was found in the case.
“We have taken the statement of the victim. All documents and prima facie evidence shows that it was donated legally,” Cuttack DCP Sanjeeb Arora said.
A four-member team of police led by Cuttack zone II ACP is investigating into the alleged kidney theft incident.
