Vigilance sleuths detain engineer, seize cash worth Rs 7.75 lakh

Keonjhar: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday raided the office and residence of Jasobanta Sarangi, Executive Engineer, Rural Works Division (RWD), Karanjia in Mayurbhanj district after seizing cash worth Rs 7,74,020 from his possession while while he was on the way to Bhubaneswar.

Acting on a tip-off, the anti-corruption officials intercepted a Bolero jeep (OR-02-BP-7585), in which Sarangi was on his way to Bhubaneswar, near Dhanibani Chhak in Keonjhar.

The Vigilance officials found cash amounting to Rs 7,74,020 in several bundles packed in envelops in his suitcase. When questioned about it, Sarangi could not account for the possession of cash.

Suspecting that the cash had been illegally collected from contractors executing various public works, the Vigilance officials conducted simultaneous raids on the office, official quarters and his houses at different places.
