Nayagarh: A video showing Block Education Officer (BEO) of Khandapada block demanding bribe from a group of Gana Sikshaks has gone viral in Nayagarh district.
Basing on the video evidence, teachers in the district have demanded action against him.
In the video, the BEO identified as Suresh Kumar Dash is seen demanding bribe money from the teachers for clearance of their arrears.
"It is not the first time that the BEO is demanding bribe . We have been facing this problem since the last five years. Arrears of those who offered him money, were cleared while of those who refused, are still pending," alleged Binod Behera Sahoo, a teacher from Khandapada.
The teachers alleged that the BEO has been demanding 10 per cent of the arrear amount for clearing the pending bills.
"We had earlier intimated the matter to the then District Collector Hemant Kumar Padhi following which an investigation was initiated under the District Education Officer (DEO). He was found guilty in the case but the officer has continued taking bribe, "added Sahoo.
Dash, however, refuted the allegations.
"There is no truth in the news. I haven't taken a single penny or asked 10 per cent for clearing the arrear money. The office has cleared all arrear bills as per allotment within four days," claimed Dash.
Meanwhile, the district Collector has ordered a probe into the incident.
