Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is setting up a sport climbing complex in Kalinga Stadium to promote adventure games in Odisha. The complex is being set up keeping in mind the 2020 Olympics, which will feature the sport for the first time.

A France based company has been engaged in the construction of the complex that is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 3.76 crore, said Mohit Oberoi, an official engaged in the construction.

The sport climbing complex is being constructed as per the specification of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC).

The construction of the complex is expected to be completed by next month, sources said.

As per plans, the complex will have facilities for all the three main types of climbing competitions - lead, speed, and bouldering.

Authorities informed that training and competition in three events will be held at the complex which will be inaugurated after the IFSC delegation certifies it after an inspection.

Under secretary of Sports Department, Devbandhu Mishra stated, “It is a new sports and the state government is promoting it under a special scheme. We are hopeful of organising national-level competitions here.”
