Hirakud: Chief Engineer of the Hirakud Dam Biswajit Mohanty on Tuesday said the preliminary report of underwater survey of the dam submitted by the Central Soil and Material Research Station (CSMRS) has revealed that the condition of the power dam is all right.

“Yesterday, the Govt of India’s CSMRS submitted its preliminary report of the underwater survey undertaken at the two spill ways and power dam. The report says the power dam is safe,” Mohanty told OTV in an interview.

“During the underwater survey, the CSMRS team said Hirakud Dam has not sustained any issues as compared to other dams in the country,” he added,

“Even the grouting, which was done to close the gap in the dam,is intact. There is nothing to worry. We will take remedial measures in the final report if there are any issues,” Mohanty said.

He informed that the final report of the underwater survey is expected to be submitted by the end of May.

Notably, the underwater survey was undertaken in two phases – one in December for two spill ways or concrete dams and another from March 15 to April 5 for power dam built with stones.
