Kendrapara: Requesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to facilitate sending a 108 vehicle to Kalamada Sasan village, Class X student Subhasis Mallick has sought the PM’s intervention to get his grandmother admitted to a hospital.

In a letter to Modi, Subhasis mentioned that due to lack of road connectivity he could not avail the 108 free ambulance services and admit his 80-year-old grandmother to a hospital.

Subhasis said, “Like me, other villagers also suffer because of no road connectivity especially during emergency cases.”

Despite 70 years after independence, Kalamada Sasan, Padinapala and Daitaripur villages under Aul block of Kendrapara district are inaccessible by road due to Kani and Kharsrota rivers.

Though the locals have urged the district administration several times to construct a bridge over the rivers and brought to its notice about the difficulties, the prayers have fallen on deaf ears.

In 2006, the Odisha Human Rights Commission had intervened and directed the State government to resolve the issue. However, the work progress is limited to tender process only.

Suresh Mallick, a local resident, said, “For the past 15 years, we have been asking for a bridge. But, no one is listening to us.”

Expressing similar views, another resident Surendra Mallick said, “The government could have set up a primary healthcare or community healthcare centre here and resolve our problems to some extent.”
