Khordha: Condemning the alleged assault on a BJD worker by Begunia MLA Prashant Jagdev yesterday, the BJP today demanded the arrest of the ruling party legislator.

Addressing media persons here today, BJP State Secretary Jatin Mohanty said the BJD MLA has been involved in several cases of assault in the recent past, but no action has been taken against him so far.

“The BJD MLA was seen assaulting BJP workers at Manamunda in Boudh district and in Puri recently. Though FIRs have been lodged against Jagdev, he is yet to be arrested by police,” Mohanty said,

He said a BJP team would soon visit Taratua near Khordha to conduct an inquiry into the incident yesterday.

Notably, a case was filed at Khordha Town police station against MLA Jagdev yesterday for assaulting party worker Sheikh Nijamuddin Khan of Taratua during a Mahanadi Banchao Mahasangram Andolan at Saradhapur Chhak.

On the other hand, Jagdev has refuted the allegation saying Nijamuddin came in an inebriated condition and abused him after intercepting his vehicle while he was coming in a procession. When he opposed him, Nijamuddin manhandled many party workers present there, the MLA alleged.

Jagdev's driver has filed a case against Nijamuddin in this regard, police said.
